Welcome!

Welcome to Caps 'Round the Clock, a blog covering the Washington Capitals and the NHL. In season, I update the Blog after every practice and on game day with Caps news and information, and then provide a recap and analysis after each contest. I also write a periodical Prospect Watch and weekly feature pieces on the state of the Men in Red and other things Capitals. And of course, I will post videos and tidbits from around the League and offer my two cents as the season wears on. In the offseason, I write a Report Card for each player, and will keep you updated on all the news about the Caps through the summer. I'm glad you're here, and hope you come back!

Practice: Mar. 24

The Washington Capitals were on ice Saturday morning for a practice following their very disappointing 4-3 loss against the Jets Friday night.  Some updates from Kettler Capitals Iceplex:

The biggest news of the day was unquestionably that Nicklas Backstrom was cleared to practice "with no restrictions."  That means contact and full participation in drills.  After participating in the session, which was optional, Backstrom says that he "absolutely" hopes to be back by the end of the regular season, but continually reiterated that he needs to be cautious and not push things.  He's right; and while this news is nothing short of spectacular, one must realize that Sidney Crosby practiced with contact for an extended period without returning. You just never know with concussions, and rushing him back is a terrible idea.
Joel Ward, who was on crutches last night, obviously did not practice with what is being called a "lower body injury."  Dale Hunter said that he is off crutches today, however, which indicates improvement.
Other than Backstrom, the Caps to practice were Aucoin, Orlov, Alzner, Carlson, Schultz, Perreault, Halpern, Chimera, Neuvirth, Vokoun, Holtby, Johansson, and Beagle.  I'm going to hold my tongue here regarding the status of a certain player not practicing.

That's all for now.  As always, follow me on Twitter here for news and updates.
